Underlying the Open Access Movement is a promise: If we make our scholarly and creative works available for anyone to use, reuse, and remix, then we all benefit. Today, however, generative AI may present a challenge to the Open Access Movement by calling into question who benefits most from the easy availability of creative works: The public good that the movement originally intended to serve, or a limited number of technology developers. This concern could cause people to withdraw from the Open Access Movement, and if people stop sharing their works with the world, then we all lose.

In this workshop, we will look at the implications that generative AI has for the Open Access movement, discuss how the OA community is starting to address generative AI, and consider possible responses to the challenges that generative AI presents to Open Access.
