Who has access to the Holman Biotech Commons course reserves?

To check out reserve or circulating materials, you must be a registered library patron.

You may register with a qualifying Institutional ID at the Holman Biotech Commons assistance desk.

Print reserves

Reserve materials are books, journal articles, and videos located for convenient professional access or for a Penn course. Required readings for the Medical School, Nursing School, Biology and Biomedical Graduate Studies Departments and many basic medical and nursing texts are available at the assistance desk; phone 215-898-5815.

Hours

Holman Biotech Commons reserves are available whenever Holman is open.

For students

Finding reserve materials

Staff at the assistance desk will retrieve materials when you provide a call number.

To find call numbers and other location information, please consult the library catalog. You can search for reserve materials by course or by instructor.

Use within the library

The requested item is charged to your account for a two-hour period. When you borrow, you may request a longer borrowing period or ask to renew once. If the item is heavily used, borrowing is limited to one hour with no renewals. If you do not have a borrower's card, ask for assistance at the assistance desk.

Home use

Certain reserve books may be checked out for home use overnight after 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, after 9 p.m. on Fridays, and after 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Clasp envelope materials do not circulate overnight.

Returning Biotech Commons reserve books

Return reserve books only to the Holman Biotech Commons assistance desk. Do not return reserve items to other campus libraries. When returning items checked out overnight, if Holman is closed, use the book return slot next to the outside main entrance to the Holman Biotech Commons.

Books are due on the next day Holman is open, by 9 a.m. Monday to Friday, by 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Fines

Holman does not charge fines for in-house reserve use.
